While I completely understand and support this decision, I also think that it puts some users in a bind - especially with higher power requirements. Nomad is trying to prevent waste and they state that moving forward, they will not be including power adapters with most power products. It seems to echo Apple’s policy on including power adapters with devices. Nomad also included a link on the product page for users to learn more about this decision. This wasn’t an easy decision, but we think it was the right one. Producing fewer chargers means less of an environmental impact. We decided not to include a 30W USB-C Power Adapter with Base One. Nomad did not include a power adapter with the Base One Max for this reason: Now, in order to maximize the charging efficiency of the Base One Max, a 30W power adapter needs to be paired with the charger.

that’s more than my iPad Pro 12-inch! I like the added weight to the charger because it keeps it securely in place and you don’t have to worry about the stand moving around. You never have to worry about the charger moving on you because it is heavily weighted. I really like that when the watch is on charge, it goes into Nightstand Mode and basically gives you a desktop clock. These two textures are excellent compliments of each other. The MagSafe charger for the phone has a glass top and a soft-touch surface on the watch charger side. The Base One Max is the combination of the Base One and the added watch charger. This illustrates the difference between the two types of chargers quite well because they are from the same product designer and the same iPhone was used for charging tests in both cases. When I tested my iPhone 12 Pro with the Base One Max, it received a charging rate of 0.77% per minute (full charging results below). With this charger, my iPhone received a charging rate of 0.40% per minute. It is a wireless charger with a magnet built-in to assist with alignment. This charger is also from Nomad but it is not MagSafe-certified. One of the big features of MagSafe charging is that with a 20-watt power adapter, MagSafe iPhones can receive up to 15W of peak power delivery whereas a magnetic wireless charger is only capable of delivering a maximum of 7.5W.Īs a basis of comparison, I looked back on a review I completed of the Nomad Base Station Mini Magnetic Wireless Charger. While there is nothing wrong with magnetic wireless chargers that are MagSafe compatible, the truth is that they don’t charge as fast. In fact, if you are searching for a MagSafe charger on Amazon, everything comes up – even the magnetic chargers. It’s not enough just to see the round charging puck. It can be hard to differentiate between the two unless this stamp is on the packaging or unless you see the MagSafe ring appear when you attach the iPhone to the charging pad. I recently found out that there are a lot of magnetic chargers in the market that are compatible with MagSafe charging – but they aren’t official MagSafe chargers. MagSafe or Magnetic Qi Charging?Īnother feature of the package that I noticed right away was the “Made for MagSafe” and “Made for  Watch” tags stamped on the front. This doesn’t affect the product at all and it’s just my opinion. I think it would have been better to show a slightly angled image so that you can see the watch charger a little better. It’s a top-down view of the product, which makes it hard to see its actual style of it. I’ve always really appreciated the packaging of Nomad products, but I have to admit that the image could be a little better for this one. The front has an image of the product along with the name across the bottom. The Base One Max comes in a classic Nomad-style box. Works with any Qi device and Apple Watch. Then, the Base One Max was released - and my charging dilemma was solved. After reviewing the Base One in April this year, I really wanted to use that charger but that left my watch out to dry.
